The National Association of Letter Carriers conducted its 18th Annual “STAMP OUT HUNGER” Food Drive on Saturday, May 8, 2010.  This is the Nation’s largest, single day food drive.  Our Nelson County letter carriers did a wonderful job collecting all the food donations left beside the mailboxes of our generous residents. It is hard to envision how they were able to make their mail deliveries and collect this much food:

Afton                                –    2,222.66 lbs.
Arrington                        –       881.90 lbs.
Faber                                –       571.20 lbs.
Gladstone                        –         31.02 lbs.
Lovingston                     –       498.52 lbs.
Montebello                     –         93.68 lbs.
Nellysford                      –       508.52 lbs.
Piney River                    –       128.78 lbs.
Roseland                        –    1,522.44 lbs.
Schuyler                         –       857.42 lbs.
Shipman                         –       252.30 lbs.
Wingina                            –         42.12 lbs.

A very big THANK YOU to all those faithful Nelson County Pantry volunteers who worked so hard on this Postal Food Drive.   Kim Bryant and Kim Dickerson did a tremendous job coordinating the whole project and making it all come together.  A record 7,610.56 pounds of food was collected from our Post Offices.  Volunteers began early Monday morning visiting all 12 Nelson County Post Offices to collect the food donations, bring them to the Pantry facility, unload, weigh, unpack and begin the unimaginable task of sorting and stocking all that food.

Again, to our Nelson County residents, letter carriers and Pantry volunteers, a BIG THANK YOU so very much for everything you did to make this year’s Postal Food Drive such a GREAT SUCCESS!!!

Thank you for caring for our

Nelson County Neighbors in Need!
